To a solution of 2, 3-dihydrobenzo[b][l,4]dioxine-2-carboxylic acid (1 equiv) and oxalyl dichloride (2 equiv) in dry DCM was added 4 drops dry DMF. After the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 h, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][l,4]dioxine-2- carbonyl chloride in quantity yield. The acid chloride (1.5 equiv) was then dissolved in DCM and was added to a solution of 2-amino-5-bromobenzo nitrile (1 equiv) and pyridine (3 equiv) in DCM at O 0C. The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at room temperature until the starting material disappeared as monitored by TLC. The reaction was quenched by addition of saturated aqueous NaHCCh and extracted with EtOAc (3 X). The EtOAc extracts were washed with brine and dried over sodium sulfate to give crude 1-1 which was then purified by chromatography over silica gel (92percent yield). 1H-NMR (DMSO-ddelta, 400 MHz) delta 10.4 (s, IH), 8.16 (s, IH), 7.92 (dd, J=8.8, 2.4 Hz, IH), 7.60 (d, J=8.8 Hz, IH), 7.04-7.01 (m, IH), 6.93-6.85 (m, 3H), 5.11 (dd, 7=6.0, 2.8 Hz, IH), 4.45 (dd, J=I 1.6, 2.8 Hz, IH), 4.36 (dd, J=I 1.6, 6.0 Hz, IH)., 3663-80-7
