In this study, a new heterobimetallic Mo(VI)-V(V) organosilicon Schiff base complex has been prepared and characterized by different techniques, such as FTIR, Raman, MS, ICP-AES, TGA, and XPS. The bimetallic nanocomplex, revealed by TEM images, showed high oxidation stability and desired activity in the aerobic oxidation of a structurally diverse set of benzylic alcohols in ethanol as a safe solvent. Further, oxidation of benzylic hydrocarbons successfully occurred, producing the target compounds in high yields and excellent selectivities. Our results demonstrated a cooperative effect between Mo(VI) and V(V) as redox active sites in an organosilicon Schiff base framework. A facile and practical reusability of the solid catalyst at the end of the reaction was observed.

In this study, a novel diamine monomer, 4-(4-trifluoromethylthiophenyl)-2,6-bis(4-aminophenyl)pyridine (FTPAP) was synthesized through two-step reaction from 4-trifluoromethylthiobenzaldehyde and 4-nitroacetophenone as raw materials, and then the structure of FTPAP was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry. A series of fluorinated polyimides were prepared from FTPAP with five commercial dianhydrides, namely, pyromellitic dianhydride, biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride, oxydiphtahalic anhydride, benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, and 4,4 ‘-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphthalic anhydride. The structure and performance of the fluorinated polymers were fully characterized by FTIR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The inherent viscosity of polymers ranged from 0.41 to 1.45 dL g(-1). These polymers displayed good solubility in polar aprotic solvents, such as N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, at room temperature or on heating. Furthermore, they exhibited outstanding thermal stability with glass transition temperatures beyond 305 degrees C, and the temperature of 10% weight loss was in the range of 514-573 degrees C with more than 56% residue at 800 degrees C under nitrogen. Moreover, they showed high optical transparency with the cutoff wavelengths in the range of 385-457 nm and excellent hydrophobic property with contact angle in the range of 82.8-97.6 degrees. In addition, the results of WAXD indicated that all of the polymers presented amorphous structure.

A supported ruthenium (Ru) nanoparticle on amino-functionalized Fe3O4 (Fe3O4/NH2/Ru) was successfully prepared by a novel and simple one-pot template-free method combined with a metal adsorption-reduction procedure. The characterization results show that the introduced amino group (1,6-hexanediamine) can effectively stabilize the Ru nanoparticles and allow the particles to maintain a narrow size distribution, monodispersity and a regular morphology. Fe3O4/NH2/Ru exhibits excellent catalytic activity for the transfer hydrogenation of nitro compounds by the use of NaBH4 as the hydrogen donor. The higher activity of this catalyst was attributed to the higher dispersion and smaller particle size of Ru nanoparticles, as observed from the characterization results. Moreover, the catalyst can be easily recovered by an external magnetic field, recycled five times and reused without any loss of activity.

Herein, we designed and prepared a novel Fe/Fe2O3-based catalyst, in which a remarkable synergistic effect has been revealed between Fe and Fe2O3 encapsulated in N-doping porous carbon. The Fe-based catalysts were fabricated via pyrolysis a mixture of MIL-101(Fe) and melamine. The catalyst exhibits exceptionally high catalytic activity (TOFs up to 8898 h(-1) which is about 100 times higher than the similar kinds of catalysts) and chemoselectivity for nitroarene reduction under mild conditions.

Sustainable development demands an environmentally friendly and efficient method for the hydrogenation of organic molecules, including the hydrogenation of functionalized nitroarenes. In this study, a highly active and selective metal-organic framework-supported palladium catalyst was prepared for the catalytic hydrogenation of nitroarenes. High selectivity (>99%) and excellent yield (98%) of aniline were realized after 2 hours in ethanol under hydrogen (1 atm) at room temperature. The reductions were successfully carried out in the presence of a wide range of other reducible functional groups. More importantly, the catalyst was very stable without the loss of its catalytic activity after five cycles.

Herein we report iodine-mediated multicomponent reactions for the synthesis of naphthoquinone-fused pyrroles tethered with a pyrimidine moiety. The reaction of aryl methyl ketones (3) or terminal aryl alkynes (5) in the presence of molecular iodine in DMSO medium followed by sequential addition of barbituric acids (2) and 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone (1) provides the corresponding three-component hybrid molecules 4 having naphthoquinone-fused pyrroles tethered with a barbituric acid moiety. This three-component reaction proceeds via metal-free C-H oxidation followed by multi-component cyclization forming three new bonds (2 C-C, 1 C-N) in one pot. Alternatively, the same molecules can also be prepared from the reaction of arylglyoxals, 2-aminonaphthoquinone, and barbituric acids in the presence of a catalytic amount of iodine in methanol medium under reflux conditions. The salient features of these methodologies are: one-pot metal-free method, good yields, wide substrate scope, easy purification of products, and the presence of medicinally important naphthoquinone, pyrrole and pyrimidine moieties in the products.

Herein, we developed a Ru(II)(BPGA) complex that could be used to catalyze chemo- and site-selective C-H oxidation. The described ruthenium complex was designed by replacing one pyridyl group on tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine with an electron-donating amide ligand that was critical for promoting this type of reaction. More importantly, higher reactivities and better chemo-, and site-selectivities were observed for reactions using the cis-ruthenium complex rather than the trans-one. This reaction could be used to convert sterically less hindered methyne and/or methylene C-H bonds of a various organic substrates, including natural products, into valuable alcohol or ketone products.
