The Ag/AgBr/TiO2 ternary component nanotube as a heterogeneous photocatalyst was used for the solvent-free oxidation of the benzylic C(sp(3))-H bond to the corresponding carbonyl compound or the solvent-controlled selective oxidative cleavage of the CQC double bond of styrene to benzaldehyde under visible light at room temperature. A wide variety of carbonyl compounds were successfully synthesized through the developed photocatalytic process. Several advantages such as solvent-free conditions, sans additional oxidant, simple reaction, short reaction time, and easy separation of the product promote the reaction to be green. Moreover, the Ag/AgBr/TiO2 nanotubes could be used several times without reduction in their photocatalytic activity.

An efficient additive-free manganese-catalyzed hydrogenation of nitriles to primary amines with molecular hydrogen is described. The pre-catalyst, a well-defined bench-stable alkyl bisphosphine Mn(I) complex fac-[Mn(dpre)(CO)(3)(CH3)] (dpre=1,2-bis(di-n-propylphosphino)ethane), undergoes CO migratory insertion into the manganese-alkyl bond to form acyl complexes which upon hydrogenolysis yields the active coordinatively unsaturated Mn(I) hydride catalyst [Mn(dpre)(CO)(2)(H)]. A range of aromatic and aliphatic nitriles were efficiently and selectively converted into primary amines in good to excellent yields. The hydrogenation of nitriles proceeds at 100 degrees C with a catalyst loading of 2 mol % and a hydrogen pressure of 50 bar. Mechanistic insights are provided by means of DFT calculations.

The effect of nanoporous structure on the catalytic activity of palladium catalysts for hydrogenation of nitro compounds was investigated. The order of the catalytic activity of the six types of nanoporous palladium (PdNPore) catalysts produced was very similar to the order of their specific surface area. Compared with other catalysts synthesized in this study, the PdNPore catalyst (Pd86Al14) with a ligament size of 20 nm and specific surface area of 40.81 m(2) g(-1)exhibited relatively high activity. The hydrogenation reactions of various nitro compounds proceeded smoothly with good functional group tolerance in the presence of this PdNPore catalyst under mild conditions. Moreover, the PdNPore catalyst could be simply recovered and reused several times without any loss of activity.

A simple and efficient continuous flow methodology has been developed for hydrogenation and reductive deuteration of nitriles to yield primary amines and also valuable alpha,alpha-dideutero analogues. Raney nickel proved to be a useful catalyst for the transformation of a wide range of nitriles under reasonably mild conditions with excellent deuterium incorporation (>90 %) and quantitative conversion. Among known model compounds, three new deuterated primary amines were prepared. The large-scale synthesis of deuterated tryptamine was also carried out to deliver 1.1 g product under flow conditions.

A novel diamine monomer 4-(4-diethylaminophenyl)-2,6-bis(4-aminophenyl)pyridine (APAP) was successfully synthesized, and then a series of poly(pyridine imide)s was prepared from APAP with five commercial dianhydrides: pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), 3,3,4,4-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 4,4-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA), 3,3,4,4-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), and 4,4-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) via a two-step solution polycondensation method. The structure of APAP was characterized by FT-IR, NMR, and MS. The resulting polymers have good solubility in polar solvents, such as NMP, DMF, and DMSO. Furthermore, they exhibited outstanding thermal stability. The glass transition temperature (T-g) of polymers range from 326 to 346 degrees C, and the temperature at 5 % and 10 % weight loss in the range of 527 degrees C to 570 degrees C and 550 degrees C to 601 degrees C, respectively. Moreover, they also presented excellent hydrophobicity with contact angels in the range of 88.4 degrees to 94.0 degrees.

A new M6L3 metal-organic triangular prism host Co-L-1 was synthesized that contains a sufficiently large cavity for encapsulation of a quinhydrone (QHQ) electron transporter to form charge-transfer complexes for accelerating electron delivery. Through the strong coordinating ability of the ONP chelator, a suitable redox potential was obtained for the combination of light-driven proton reduction with the selective hydrogenation of nitro groups. The experimental results showed that the regulation of redox potential is very beneficial for hydrogen production and that the introduction of QHQ accelerates electron transfer and increases the reaction rate. Control experiments based on an inhibitor and a mononuclear compound resembling the cobalt corner of the triangular prism suggest enzyme-like behaviour. This synthetic platform, in which the supramolecular systems exhibit high activity and stability, provides an alternative strategy to selectively hydrogenate nitroarenes using light as a clean energy source.

Fourteen N-[{(substituted-phenylthiazol-2-yl)-3-aryl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl}methylene]-5-substituted-thiazol-2-amine (5a-n) analogs were synthesized by the reaction of 3-aryl-1-(thiazol-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde and substituted thiazole amines. The structures of prepared compounds were delineated by elemental analysis, FT-IR and H-1 NMR spectra. These analogs were scrutinized for in vitro antiinfective and cytotoxic activities. Some thaizole clubbed pyrazole derivatives were assessed for their cytological changes in germ cells of Capra hircus by using histomorphological analysis, fluorescence assay and apoptosis quantification. Compound 51 having 4-NO2 substituent induced the significant apoptosis in tested cells of Capra hircus. The results revealed that compounds 5c, 5e, 5k, and 51 have commendable antibacterial activity within MIC range of 62.5-250 mu g/ml. Compound 5c emerged as a potent antimalarial compound by exhibiting IC50 value of 0.23 mu g/ml and compound 5j induced paralysis of Pherentima posthuma at 8.6 +/- 1.94 min and death at 20 +/- 5.04 min, respectively. Compound 5j revealed an excellent cytotoxicity at IC50 value of 30.7 and < 10 mu g/ml against MCF-7 and HeLa cells, respectively. Novel 6(3-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-3-phenylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones (7a-e) were synthesized from different enaminones (6a-e) with 6-hydrazinyl-3-phenylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione. 2,6(4-2-Substituted-1,3,5-triazin-1(2H)-yl)-3-phenylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones (8a-k) were synthesized from the reaction of 1-(2,4-dioxo-3-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazolin-6-yl)thiourea, urea, or guanidine (3a-c) with enaminones (6a-e), and a series from 3-substituted-2-imino-1,3,5-triazin-1(2H)-yl-sulfonyl-phenyl-1-methylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (12a-j) were obtained from the reaction of N-(diaminomethylene)-4-(1-methyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2-dihydroquinazolin-3(4H)-yl)benzenesulfonamide (11) with the enaminone (6a-j). The antitumor activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against two human cell lines: human colon carcinoma HCT116 and human hepatocellular carcinoma HEP-G2. Some of the tested compounds showed significant potency compared to the reference drug staurosporin.

A green chemical preparation of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in phytochemical resins using a plant extract from Pulicaria odora L. and PdCl2 under ambiant conditions is reported. Two batches of Pd NPs have been prepared: they present homogeneous sizes of respectively 2.2 nm and 3.2 nm depending on the preparation conditions. The Pd NPs were characterized by different techniques (TEM, HRTEM, XRD, XPS and BET) and have been successfully used for the reduction of nitroarenes in EtOH under H-2 at atmospheric pressure at rt in the presence of only 5 mequiv. of Pd. Finally the Pd NPs embedded in resin particles were easily recovered by filtration and used at least seven times without significant loss in efficiency. The residual amount of palladium found in the reaction product is very low (<0.6% of the initial amount). Here in this study regarding the over expression of TP, which causes some physical, mental and socio problems like psoriasis, chronic inflammatory disease, tumor angiogenesis and rheumatoid arthritis etc. By this consideration, the inhibition of this enzyme is vital to secure life from serious threats. In connection with this, we have synthesized twenty derivatives of isoquinoline bearing oxadiazole (1-20), characterized through different spectroscopic techniques such as HREI-MS, H-1-NMR and C-13-NMR and evaluated for thymidine phosphorylase inhibition. All analogues showed outstanding inhibitory potential ranging in between 1.10 +/- 0.05 to 54.60 +/- 1.50 mu M. 7-Deazaxanthine (IC50 = 38.68 +/- 1.12 mu M) was used as a positive control. Through limited structure activity relationships study, it has been observed that the difference in inhibitory activities of screened analogs are mainly affected by different substitutions on phenyl ring. The effective binding interactions of the most active analogs were confirmed through docking study.
