Herein, we developed a Ru(II)(BPGA) complex that could be used to catalyze chemo- and site-selective C-H oxidation. The described ruthenium complex was designed by replacing one pyridyl group on tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine with an electron-donating amide ligand that was critical for promoting this type of reaction. More importantly, higher reactivities and better chemo-, and site-selectivities were observed for reactions using the cis-ruthenium complex rather than the trans-one. This reaction could be used to convert sterically less hindered methyne and/or methylene C-H bonds of a various organic substrates, including natural products, into valuable alcohol or ketone products.

The aim of the study is to design and synthesis of a new series of potent anti-TB 1,2,4-triazol-1-yl-pyrazole based spirooxindolopyrrolizidines with their safety profile. A synergetic effect of ultrasonication and ionic liquid was shown successfully as a green methodology for the synthesis of title compounds 6a-t. These derivatives were obtained in shorter reaction time with good yields and well characterized by various spectroscopic methods, single-crystal X-ray diffraction (6f). The in vitro anti-tuberculosis activity for newly-synthesized derivatives has been screened against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Among all, six compounds 6e, 6k, 6l, 6n, 6q and 6r exhibited equal potent activity compared to standard drug ethambutol (MIC: 1.56 mu g/mL) and another compound 6h exhibited outstanding activity (MIC: 0.78 mu g/mL) than the standard drug ethambutol. Cytotoxic nature of the anti-TB active compounds was evaluated against RAW 264.7 cells. The 6h, 6e, 6k, 6l, 6n, 6q and 6r exhibited lower toxicity which could be promising hits for anti-tuberculosis.

Also, (E)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one was converted to different pyrazoline in four steps. The synthesis of sulfonamides was carried out under solvent-free conditions at room temperature and the products were obtained in high purity after a simple work-up without using any chromatography method for purification. All of the products were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity againstStaphylococcus aureusandEscherichia coli.

A new methodology for the carbonylative transformation of N-fluoro-sulfonamides into N-sulfonyl-beta-homoproline esters has been described. In the presence of a catalytic amount of Cu(OTf)(2), a range of beta-homoproline derivatives were prepared in moderate to good yield. The reaction proceeds via the intramolecular cyclization and intermolecular carbonylation of a free carbon radical. Notably, this procedure offers the possibility to build potential functionalized bioactive molecules.

Single-atom catalysts (SACS) have attracted much attention due to their outstanding catalytic performance in heterogeneous catalysis. Here, we report a template sacrificial method to fabricate an atomically dispersed Co catalyst; three C kinds of silica templates with different microstructures (MCM-41, SBA-15, and FDU-12) were employed and the effect of pore structure of the templates on the dispersity of Co was investigated. The catalysts fabricated with different templates presented different Co dispersities, leading to distinguishing catalytic performance. The optimized Co-1@NC-(SBA) catalyst with atomically dispersed Co displayed outstanding catalytic activity for the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of lignin-derived species as well as the hydrogenation of various nitroaromatics. The reaction mechanism of the HDO of vanillin was investigated by using density functional theory calculations as well.

Novel arginine-functionalized starch-based nanoparticles (Arg-SNPs) were synthesized and characterized by Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermos-gravimetric analyses (TGA) techniques. Arg-SNP was used as a highly efficient and macromolecule-supported recyclable nanocatalyst for the one-pot reaction between thiourea and iodine with various substituted methylcarbonyls to afford the corresponding diheteroaryl thioethers in high-to-quantitative yields. i Summary of main observation and conclusion A highly efficient, simple, and clean single-step sonosynthetic procedure has been sophisticated for assembling new series of mono- and bis-pyridine dicarbonitriles from ketones, HCl, and tetracyanoethylene. The presented protocol is applicable for the preparation of a broad range of uniquely substituted pyridine dicarbonitriles and seems to be superior in comparison with other previously reported methods. The antiproliferative impact of the newly synthesized derivatives was screened towards three representative cancer cell lines (MCF-7, A549, and HCT116). Most of the evaluated derivatives showed a moderate to excellent anti-proliferative activity towards the selected cell lines. Of these, compounds 4h, 4k, 10, 12a, and 12b showed both potent anticancer activity (IC50<10 mu M) and lower cytotoxic effect (IC50 > 58 mu M) on non-tumorigenic cells (MCF-10A and NCM460), suggesting their promising potential to be lead molecules for future antitumor drug discovery. The structure-activity relationships have been also discussed. Moreover, quantum chemical studies based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) of the synthesized compounds were investigated and found to be consistent with the in vitro inhibitory activities.

A new class of bis heterocycles-benzimidazolyl pyrazoles were prepared from the Michael acceptor (E)-3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-1-aryl-prop-2-en-1-one. The thiamide group was exploited to develop thiazole ring on treatment with p-fluorophenacyl bromide to get tris heterocycles. All the lead compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity. The compound 7d having nitro substituent on the aromatic ring showed greater antimicrobial activity particularly against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Penicillium chrysogenum.

In this study, a novel diamine monomer, 4-(4-trifluoromethylthiophenyl)-2,6-bis(4-aminophenyl)pyridine (FTPAP) was synthesized through two-step reaction from 4-trifluoromethylthiobenzaldehyde and 4-nitroacetophenone as raw materials, and then the structure of FTPAP was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry. A series of fluorinated polyimides were prepared from FTPAP with five commercial dianhydrides, namely, pyromellitic dianhydride, biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride, oxydiphtahalic anhydride, benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, and 4,4 ‘-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphthalic anhydride. The structure and performance of the fluorinated polymers were fully characterized by FTIR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The inherent viscosity of polymers ranged from 0.41 to 1.45 dL g(-1). These polymers displayed good solubility in polar aprotic solvents, such as N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, at room temperature or on heating. Furthermore, they exhibited outstanding thermal stability with glass transition temperatures beyond 305 degrees C, and the temperature of 10% weight loss was in the range of 514-573 degrees C with more than 56% residue at 800 degrees C under nitrogen. Moreover, they showed high optical transparency with the cutoff wavelengths in the range of 385-457 nm and excellent hydrophobic property with contact angle in the range of 82.8-97.6 degrees. In addition, the results of WAXD indicated that all of the polymers presented amorphous structure.
