One-step base promoted strategy for cyanation of alpha,alpha-diaryl alcohols has been developed under mild and transition metal-free conditions. This method provides a straightforward and facile way towards the synthesis of beta,gamma-unsaturated nitriles and alpha-phenylnitiriles from alpha-vinyl carbinols and alpha,alpha-diaryl methanols, respectively, up to 99% yield. A simple phosphine-free cobalt-NHC pincer complex has been synthesized and utilized for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones with 2-propanol as hydrogen donor. A broad range of ketones varying from aromatic, aliphatic and heterocyclic were effectively reduced to their corresponding alcohols in moderate to excellent yields with good tolerance of functional groups.

Using green chemical method a series of fifteen systematically substituted 3-(9-substituted anthracen-10-yl)-1-(4-phenyl substituted)prop-2-en-1-one derivatives having high nonlinear absorption coefficient have been synthesized. The nonlinear absorption properties of these compounds were studied using nanosecond pulses at 532 nm wavelength. All 15 derivatives are found to show high nonlinear absorption in the range of 35-640 cm/GW. Among these the derivatives with-NO2 as one of the substitution group show higher nonlinear absorption. The origin of high nonlinear absorption with low linear absorption in the compounds has been attributed to two-step two-photon absorption process. We have shown that the energy bands of these compounds are distributed such that for excitation at 532 nm they have strong nonlinear absorption. These properties of the reported compounds make them a potential candidate for biological imaging and other applications which are based on nonlinear absorption. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. A group of trisubstituted pyrazoles containing thiophen, 2-alkyloxypyridine and thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine heterocycles were synthesized in a study for possible analgesic agents. The desired products were obtained by reaction of 2-(1-(3-chlorophenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazol-4-yemethylene)malononitrile with sulfur in presence of TEA, followed by treatment with different reagents. Newer products were examined for their analgesic properties, among them, analog 7 showed significant analgesic effects in comparison with reference medicines activity.

A method for the synthesis of polysubstituted 4-difluoromethyl and perfluoroalkyl pyrazole derivatives by the Lewis acid- and base-co-mediated reaction of perfluoroacetyl diazoester with ketones is reported. A series of structurally diverse 4-difluoromethylated and perfluoroalkylated pyrazoles were obtained in moderate to good yields. It is a persistent target to develop noble-metal-free catalysts that can achieve chemoselective hydrogenation of nitro compounds under mild reaction conditions. In this work, we report a new strategy for preparation of hydrogenation catalysts containing both CoNx and CoyZnS supported on N-doped porous carbon (CoNx-CoyZnS@NPC-Z). The CoNx-CoyZnS@NPC-Z catalysts were prepared by pyrolyzing the protein-metal-ion networks, followed by treatment with acid. We found that CoNxCoyZnS@NPC-3 catalyst delivers high catalytic activity and selectivity, affording almost full conversion and >98% selectivity in water/methanol mixture solvents at 90 degrees C under 5 bar of H-2 pressure for 3 h of reaction. Notably, the catalytic hydrogenation can work even under 1 bar of H-2 pressure and at room temperature with high conversion and selectivity. Besides, CoNx-CoyZnS@NPC-3 exhibits remarkable tolerance to CO or H2S poisoning and acid erosion.

Catalytic reductions of carbonyl-containing compounds are highly important for the safe, sustainable, and economical production of alcohols. Herein, we report on the efficient transfer hydrogenation of ketones catalyzed by a highly potent Mn(I)-NHC complex. Mn-NHC 1 is practical at metal concentrations as low as 75 ppm, thus approaching loadings more conventionally reserved for noble metal based systems. With these low Mn concentrations, catalyst deactivation is found to be highly temperature dependent and becomes especially prominent at increased reaction temperature. Ultimately, understanding of deactivation pathways could help close the activity/stability-gap with Ru and Ir catalysts towards the practical implementation of sustainable earth-abundant Mn-complexes.

The catalytic asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of acetophenone in isopropanol by Ru(0) nanoparticles (NPs) obtained by the in-situ reduction of Ru (II) half-sandwich complexes of chiral 2-oxazolidinethiones and 2-thiozolidinethiones was examined and compared with the catalytic activity of Ru(0) NPs formed in-situ by the reduction of [Ru(p-cymene)(Cl)(2)](2) in presence of optically active ligands such as (S)-4-isobutylthiazolidine-2-thione, (S)-4-Isopropyl-2(-2-pyridinyl)-2-oxazoline, (8S, 9R)-(-)-cinchonidine, (S)-leucinol, (S)-phenylalaninol, and (S)-leucine. Three of the best catalytic systems were then examined for ATH of thirteen aromatic ketones with different electronic and steric properties. A maximum of 24% ee was obtained using NPs generated from the Ru (II) half-sandwich complex with (S)-4-isobutylthiazolidine-2-thione in the TH of acetophenone. The NPs were characterized by TEM and DLS measurements. Kinetic studies and poisoning experiments confirmed that the reaction is catalyzed by the chiral NPs formed in-situ. Complete characterization of the complexes, including the X-ray crystallographic characterization of two complexes, was also carried out.

This study details the isolation and characterisation of three novel silver(I) amides in solution and solid-state, [Ag(Cy3P)(HMDS)] 2, [Ag(Cy3P){N(TMS)(Dipp)}] 3 and [Ag(Cy3P)(2)(NPh2)] 4. Their catalytic abilities have proved successful in hydroboration and hydrosilylation reactions with a full investigation performed with complex 2. Both protocols proceed under mild conditions, displaying exceptional functional-group tolerance and chemoselectivity, in excellent conversions at competitive reaction times. This work reveals the first catalytic hydroboration of aldehydes and ketones performed by a silver(I) catalyst.

In this work, we have synthesized a series of 2-thiazolylhydrazone derivatives (1-27) and investigated their biological activities as tyrosinase inhibitors and antioxidants. Some compounds showed potent tyrosinase inhibitory activities and 4-(2-(2-(1-(4-Aminophenyl)ethylidene)-hydrazinyl)thiazol-4-yl) phenol (26) showed more potent inhibitory effect than the standard tyrosinase inhibitor kojic acid (IC50: 9.8 mu M vs. 23.6 mu M). Compounds 2, 14, and 26 exhibited high antioxidant activities in 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2 ‘-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. The structure-activity relationship (SAR) indicated that the substitutions of bromine, hydroxyl group, and amino groups cause great effect to the inhibition effect against tyrosinase. The mechanism and kinetic studies demonstrated that the inhibitory effect of compound 26 on the tyrosinase by acting as the reversible and uncompetitive inhibitor. Docking studies suggests that compound 26 interacts strongly with mushroom tyrosinase via hydrogen bonding.
