Electrochemical intermolecular C-N formation/cyclization of ketones with 2-aminopyridines using catalytic hydriodic acid as the redox mediator was developed, providing imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines under more environmentally benign conditions. The reaction proceeds in a simple undivided cell, using low toxic ethanol as the solvent, without external oxidants, and exhibits high atom economy. A variety of ketones including acetophenones, unsatruated and alkyl ketones are amenable to this reaction, affording the corresponding products in moderate to excellent yields. A three-component tandem reaction realizing C-N, C-S/C-Se bond formation can also be achieved under standard conditions.

A new rhodium(III) triphenylphosphine complex having the general formula [Rh(PPh3)(2)(L)Cl] (1) was synthesized by C-S bond cleavage of an ONS donor azo-thioether ligand (L-CH2Ph). The complex was thoroughly characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. Its single crystal X-ray structure exhibits an octahedral geometry around the rhodium(III) center. A cyclic voltammogram of the complex exhibits ligand based quasi-irreversible oxidative and reductive responses. The electronic structure, redox properties and electronic excitations in the complex were interpreted by DFT and TDDFT calculations. Objective To classify a cohort of depressed adolescents recruited to the UK IMPACT trial, according to trajectories of symptom change. We examined for predictors and compared the data-driven categories of patients with a priori operational definitions of treatment response. Method Secondary data analysis using growth mixture modelling (GMM). Missing data were imputed. Trajectories of self-reported depressive symptoms were plotted using scores taken at six nominal time points over 86 weeks from randomisation in all 465 patients. Results A piecewise GMM categorised patients into two classes with initially similar and subsequently distinct trajectories. Both groups had a significant decline in depressive symptoms over the first 18 weeks. Eighty-four per cent (84.1%, n = 391) of patients were classed as ‘continued-improvers’ with symptoms reducing over the duration of the study. A further class of 15.9% (n = 74) of patients were termed ‘halted-improvers’ with higher baseline depression scores, faster early recovery but no further improvement after 18 weeks. Presence of baseline comorbidity somewhat increased membership to the halted-improvers class (OR = 1.40, CI: 1.00-1.96). By end of study, compared with classes, a clinical remission cut-off score (<= 27) and a symptom reduction score (>= 50%) indexing treatment response misclassified 15% and 31% of cases, respectively. Conclusions A fast reduction in depressive symptoms in the first few weeks of treatment may not indicate a good prognosis. Halted improvement is only seen after 18 weeks of treatment. Longitudinal modelling may improve the precision of revealing differential responses to treatment. Improvement in depressive symptoms may be somewhat better in the year after treatment than previously considered.

Fourteen N-[{(substituted-phenylthiazol-2-yl)-3-aryl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl}methylene]-5-substituted-thiazol-2-amine (5a-n) analogs were synthesized by the reaction of 3-aryl-1-(thiazol-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde and substituted thiazole amines. The structures of prepared compounds were delineated by elemental analysis, FT-IR and H-1 NMR spectra. These analogs were scrutinized for in vitro antiinfective and cytotoxic activities. Some thaizole clubbed pyrazole derivatives were assessed for their cytological changes in germ cells of Capra hircus by using histomorphological analysis, fluorescence assay and apoptosis quantification. Compound 51 having 4-NO2 substituent induced the significant apoptosis in tested cells of Capra hircus. The results revealed that compounds 5c, 5e, 5k, and 51 have commendable antibacterial activity within MIC range of 62.5-250 mu g/ml. Compound 5c emerged as a potent antimalarial compound by exhibiting IC50 value of 0.23 mu g/ml and compound 5j induced paralysis of Pherentima posthuma at 8.6 +/- 1.94 min and death at 20 +/- 5.04 min, respectively. Compound 5j revealed an excellent cytotoxicity at IC50 value of 30.7 and < 10 mu g/ml against MCF-7 and HeLa cells, respectively. In this study, the covalent bonding of linear poly(ionic liquids (PILs) with covalent organic frameworks (COFs) was accessed by copolymerization of a vinyl-decorated COF with 4-vinylbenzyl chloride, followed by quaternization with tertiary amines. The resultant PIL-COF composite by anchoring a proper content of vinyl sites on the COF-based comonomer retains the crystallinity and porosity, thereby facilitating access of the reactants to the catalytic active sites. As a proof of concept, the dehydrative transformation of sorbitol into isosorbide was selected as a benchmark reaction, whose rate improved significantly in the presence of PIL-COF-0.33 compared with those of individual components and the mesoporous PIL counterpart due to uniform pore sizes and flexible linear catalytic chains. In addition, the hybrids bearing a chemical cross-linkage between PILs and COFs are robust, and PIL-COF-0.33 can be recovered and reused for 10 runs without significant reactivity loss. These findings provide the basis for a novel design concept for achieving both efficient and stable IL catalysis.

A three-component reaction has been developed for the construction of multiaryl-substituted pyrrole derivatives from arylketones, amines, and nitrovinylarenes under metal- free conditions. Hence, homologous 1,2,4-triaryl-substituted pyrrole products were obtained in good to high yields. Furthermore, 2,3,5-triaryl-substituted pyrroles were selectively formed in the absence of nitrovinylarenes. The photophysical properties of some pyrrole products have been investigated to show good aggregation-induced emission (AIE) activity.

In this study, a new heterobimetallic Mo(VI)-V(V) organosilicon Schiff base complex has been prepared and characterized by different techniques, such as FTIR, Raman, MS, ICP-AES, TGA, and XPS. The bimetallic nanocomplex, revealed by TEM images, showed high oxidation stability and desired activity in the aerobic oxidation of a structurally diverse set of benzylic alcohols in ethanol as a safe solvent. Further, oxidation of benzylic hydrocarbons successfully occurred, producing the target compounds in high yields and excellent selectivities. Our results demonstrated a cooperative effect between Mo(VI) and V(V) as redox active sites in an organosilicon Schiff base framework. A facile and practical reusability of the solid catalyst at the end of the reaction was observed.

A novel nonanuclear copper(II) complex obtained by a facile one-pot self-assembly was found to catalyze the hydroboration of ketones and aldehydes with the absence of an activator under mild, solvent-free conditions. The catalyst is air-and moisture-stable, displaying high efficiency (1980 h(-1) turnover frequency, TOF) and chemo-selectivity on aldehydes over ketones and ketones over imines. This represents a rare example of divalent copper catalyst for the hydroboration of carbonyls.
