The effects of solvents and the amount of the supported tribromide resin on the reactions were investigated. Zr-based metal-organic frameworks have been considered promising heterogeneous catalysts in various reactions. It has been proven that the defect sites in these frameworks, which result from deficiency of linkers, could act as the reaction active sites. In this work, microwave irradiation was used for rapid synthesis and increasing defects on Zr-6 clusters of metal-organic framework UiO-66. Powder X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, and N-2 sorption isotherms were performed to characterize and calculate the defect number in the framework. UiO-66 prepared by microwave method for a few minutes could reach 1.8 missing linkers per cluster. The material with acetic acid as a co-catalyst showed highly heterogeneous catalytic activity in the solvent-free heterocyclization of 2,2-disubstituted 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones from anthranilamide and ketones/aldehydes. The synthetic scheme consisted of zirconium cluster catalysed carbonyl group of anthranilamide to achieve the C-N propitious combination and succeeding ring closure process.

Substituted phenylthiazolyl benzamide and pyrrolyl benzamide derivatives were developed using molecular hybridization technique to create novel lead antimycobacterial molecules used to fight against Mycobacteriumtuberculosis. The newly synthesized molecules have inhibited InhA, the enoyl-ACP reductase enzyme from the mycobacterial type II fatty acid biosynthetic pathway. Of these, compound 3b showed H-bonding interactions with Tyr158 and co-factor NAD(+) that binds the active site of InhA. All the molecules were screened for in vitro antitubercular activity against M. tuberculosis H(37)Rv, as well as some representative molecules as the inhibitors of InhA. Thirteen compounds exhibited good anti-TB activities (MIC = 1.6 mu g/mL), but only few representative molecules showed the moderate InhA enzyme inhibition activity. Basic core moiety and docked mode of all the synthesized compounds inside the proposed binding pocket of InhA with the final selected pharmacophore model molecular alignment for InhA receptor ligands. The oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones is a highly relevant conversion for the pharmaceutical and fine-chemical industries, and for biomass conversion, and is commonly performed using stoichiometric amounts of highly hazardous oxidants. The aerobic oxidation of alcohols with transition metal complex catalysts previously required complicated organic ligands and/or nitroxyl radicals as co-catalysts. Herein, we report an efficient and eco-friendly method to promote the aerobic oxidation of alcohols using an inorganic-ligand supported copper catalyst 1, (NH4)(4)[CuMo6O18(OH)(6)], with O-2 (1 atm) as the sole oxidant. Catalyst 1 is synthesized directly from cheap and commonly available (NH4)(6)Mo7O24 center dot 4H(2)O and CuSO4, which consists of a pure inorganic framework built from a central Cu-II core supported by six (MoO6)-O-VI inorganic scaffolds. The copper catalyst 1 exhibits excellent selectivity and activity towards a wide range of substrates in the catalytic oxidation of alcohols, and can avoid the use of toxic oxidants, nitroxyl radicals, and potentially air/moisture sensitive and complicated organic ligands that are not commercially available. Owing to its robust inorganic framework, catalyst 1 shows good stability and reusability, and the catalytic oxidation of alcohols with catalyst 1 could be readily scaled up to gram scale with little loss of catalytic activity, demonstrating great potential of the inorganic-ligand supported Cu catalysts in catalytic chemical transformations.

Considering the high performance of ionic liquid decorated halloysite clay as a catalyst support, herein a halloysite -poly (ionic liquid) polymer composite is synthesized and characterized via BET, TGA, TEM, FTIR, XRD and ICP and then applied for the immobilization of Pd species to afford a catalyst for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes. To shed light to the effect of the content and nature of poly (ionic liquid) polymer on the catalytic activity, two control samples with different content and entity of poly (ionic liquid) polymer were synthesized and compared by FTIR, TGA and BET. The results confirmed that the content of poly (ionic liquid) polymer significantly affected the catalytic activity and the higher this value, the higher the Pd content and consequently the superior the catalytic activity would be. The study of the nature of poly (ionic liquid) polymer revealed that it did not dramatically influence the catalytic activity. However, the choice of the monomer affected the content of poly (ionic liquid) polymer formed on halloysite. Notably, the catalyst was highly selective toward reduction of nitro group and competing functionalities remained intact under the reaction condition. Moreover, the catalyst showed excellent recyclability with low Pd leaching.

It gave the cyclohexene motif and spirocyclohexene skeleton. Four C-C bonds formed in this process. Both propylene and ketone could be well tolerated and give the corresponding cyclohexene or spirocyclohexene motif in useful yields. Various functional 3-acyl-1,5-benzodiazepines containing carboxyl, ester and acyl groups at the 2-position were synthesized via an efficient, sustainable and catalyst-free domino reaction. During the synthesis process, one new cycle and four new bonds (one C-C, two C-N and one C=C) were constructed by the nucleophilic substitution, nucleophilic addition, dehydration and cyclization reaction by the H+ shift. Furthermore, a total of 26 examples were examined by reacting inexpensive starting materials of N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal, aromatic ketones, 1,2-phenylenediamine compounds and aldehyde derivatives. Therefore, it displayed a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, high yields (77-97%) and the ease of obtaining target compounds without the involvement of toxic solvents and column chromatography, which provided a novel method for the synthesis of a wide variety of biologically relevant 1,5-benzodiazepines.

The Summary of main observation and conclusion A straightforward multicomponent sulfonamidation of nitroarenes, sodium metabisulfite and boronic acids was established under transition-metal-free conditions to access diverse sulfonamides from readily available and low-cost materials modularly. Inorganic salt sodium metabisulfite not only served as a sulfur dioxide source, but also played a key role for both activator and reductant during sulfonamidation. Notably, naturally occurring biomolecules and pharmaceuticals with multiple heteroatoms and sensitive functional groups were intensively investigated in this transformtion providing versatile sulfonamides collectively. Further mechanistic studies demonstrated that nitrosoarene is the key intermediate, and the activation of boronic acid is the rate-determining step in the transformation.
