A synthesis of beta-ketosulfones via sulfination of aryl methyl ketones and aryl acetylenes with sodium sulfinates under mild electrochemical conditions, in moderate to good chemical yields, is described. In particular, an electrochemical sulfination reaction of alkynes with sulfinate salts has never been explored. An environmentally friendly characteristic of this reaction is that it uses electricity as a valuable energy source for electrochemical synthesis of beta-ketosulfones. This strategy is more convenient and practical compared to previous approaches.

A convenient method for the synthesis of 2-oxo-acetamidines from methyl ketones using aromatic amines and DMF as nitrogen sources is reported via copper-catalyzed C(sp(3))-H amidination. Various methyl ketones react readily with aromatic amines and DMF, producing 2-oxo-acetamidines in yields of 47 to 92%. This protocol features the simultaneous formation of C-N and C?N bonds using DMF and aromatic amines as two different nitrogen sources. It thus provides an efficient approach to construct acyclic amidines via three C(sp(3))-H bond amidination. Based on the preliminary experiments, a plausible mechanism of this transformation is disclosed.

A novel metal-free catalytic one-pot approach has been developed for the esterification of aralkyl ketones with alcohols under open-air atmospheric conditions. The inexpensive iodide/oxone reagent system allowed the cascade C(sp(3))-H bond oxygenation, selective C-C bond cleavage and esterification through the both radical and ionic pathways in a stepwise manner in one-pot. This mild, convenient and economically viable catalytic method tolerates the various functional groups to provide the corresponding alkyl benzoates in up to 98% yields with up to 99% selectivity. The efficiency and feasibility of scale-up of the present catalytic system was demonstrated with gram scale experiments (up to 10 gram scale).

Isoquinoline analogues (KA-1 to 16) have been synthesized and evaluated for their E. coli thymidine phosphorylase inhibitory activity. Except compound 11, all other analogs showed outstanding thymidine inhibitory potential ranging in between 4.40 +/- 0.20 to 69.30 +/- 1.80 mu M when compared with standard drug 7-Deazaxanthine (IC50 = 38.68 +/- 4.42 mu M). Structure Activity Relationships has been established for all compounds, mainly based on substitution pattern on phenyl ring. All analogs were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques such as H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and EI-MS. The binding interactions of isoquinoline analogues with the active site of TP enzyme, the molecular docking studies were performed. Furthermore, the angiogenic inhibitory potentials of isoquinoline analogues (KA-1-9, 14, 12 and 16) were determined in the presence of standard drug Dexamethasone based on percentage inhibitions at various concentrations. Herein this work analogue KA-12, 14 and 16 emerged with most potent angiogenic inhibitory potentials among the synthesized analogues.

The grafting of a Pt(II) photocatalyst into three different mesoporous silica-based materials with different particle sizes and pore sizes was easily achieved through an amide bond formation. The analysis and results of the different characterization techniques showed that the catalyst is immobilized inside the pores of the materials and the photophysical properties of the catalyst are preserved after the covalent anchoring. A new methodology for the carbonylative transformation of N-fluoro-sulfonamides into N-sulfonyl-beta-homoproline esters has been described. The first highly efficient and practical chiral BrOnsted acid catalyzed dynamic kinetic asymmetric hydroamination (DyKAH) of racemic allenes and asymmetric hydroamination of unactivated dienes with both high E/Z selectivity and enantioselectivity are described herein. The transformation proceeds through a new catalytic asymmetric model involving a highly reactive pi-allylic carbocationic intermediate, generated from racemic allenes or dienes through a proton transfer mediated by an activating/directing thiourea group. This method affords expedient access to structurally diverse enantioenriched, potentially bioactive alkenyl-containing aza-heterocycles and bicyclic aza-heterocycles.
